How Chiropractic Care Helps Neck Pain | Chiropractor for Neck Pain in Mt Dora, FL
All right, so what we want to address today in this short video is how does chiropractic and more specifically upper cervical chiropractic help relieve neck pain. So I’m going to try to keep this short and sweet. The difference is this, we have a subspecialty within chiropractic known as upper cervical care.
Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care
So Upper Cervical simply means where your head and neck come together. And that is the most critical part of the spine and nervous system because we’re getting closer and closer to your brain and your brain stem. Think of that as the main breaker the fuse box lives inside the top two bones or the tail of your brainstem drops into there. Okay, so that can lead to a whole host of issues. So through traumas could be as a child, things falls, sports injuries, car accidents, those incidents can be from your past, that can be from years back. And even just repetitive micro trauma sitting in a desk for eight hours a day and so on. What can happen is the skull and your head which weighs 10 pounds, can misaligned off your two ounce bone that’s called your atlas. This is the actual size of an adult Atlas not much.
Traumas Can Cause Misalingments and Cause Neck Pain
So the entire way your head is sitting on these little joints here. And through, you know, traumas whiplashes ,falls throughout life, we can get a misalignment there, as soon as we have that misalignment, it can create a whole cascade of issues anything from spinal cord tension or cerebral spinal fluid flow, it can affect your vestibular system and balance, obviously, pain altered function. One of the things that’s gonna happen, though, is that once we have a misalignment here, the nerves that control all of your postural muscles down your ankle, they emanate from this upper neck. And when that happens, we’ll get a one sided contraction, like you know, left brain right body situation where we’ll get a contraction on one side, which will highlight that leg short. And then your posture is going to alter as you’re standing on a short leg, which can cause anything from knee pain to back pain, shoulder and neck pain, because now all the muscles are imbalanced because we actually have neurological stress from an upper neck misalignment.
